Indy Nelson, a seasoned traveler from the USA, has successfully visited every country in the world, including North Korea multiple times. Along his journey, he faced significant challenges, including being detained four times on suspicion of espionage in countries like Iran and Russia. Despite these hurdles, Indy now holds the Guinness World Record for the most airlines flown on, having boarded 170 unique airlines during his travels.
His adventure began after an eye-opening trip to North Korea during spring break, inspiring him to take an $80,000 loan and explore the globe post-college. Indy’s travels were fraught with risks, navigating through war zones and volatile regions while trying to avoid conflict whenever possible. He recounted a particularly harrowing moment before visiting the Central African Republic, just after 24 UN personnel were killed.
Indy’s travel experiences have been diverse, with Cambodia standing out as his favorite destination for its culture and friendly locals, while he found the Comoros less welcoming. He enjoyed flying with Emirates and Qatar Airways, noting that he faced few issues during his 500 flights, with only two cancellations leading to complimentary hotel stays.
Though he’s currently focused on his telecommunication startup aimed at providing mobile data to underserved communities, Indy encourages others to travel and expand their horizons. “Just do it when you’re young,” he advises, emphasizing how travel can profoundly change one’s perspective on the world.
