The Ipswich Half Marathon, held on Sunday, witnessed several Guinness World Records being shattered as thousands of participants tackled the 13.1-mile course. Starting at Portman Road stadium, runners navigated through the Waterfront, Holywells Park, and along the River Orwell.
Notably, the Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service set multiple records while completing the race in full personal protective equipment (PPE). Ashley Buxton aimed to break the record for the fastest half marathon while wearing PT kit and carrying a breathing apparatus, while Paul Shattock sought the same title in fire PPE and using breathing apparatus under air.
Additionally, George Trott and Grant Whitehead attempted to achieve the fastest half marathon in firefighters’ PPE while carrying breathing apparatus. Although the results are pending official confirmation from Guinness World Records, preliminary timings suggest they have surpassed the existing records.
Graham Mummery, a partner at Larking Gowen, expressed pride in supporting the local community and emphasized their ongoing relationship with Run For All, celebrating the achievement of all runners as they crossed the finish line.
