A Brisbane man has made headlines by securing a Guinness World Record for his remarkable speed in putting on underwear, managing to slip on 44 pairs in just one minute. Nicholas Manning has also claimed two additional undies-related records for the most knickers put on in 10 and 30 seconds.
Manning expressed his childhood dream of breaking a world record, sharing that he was inspired by the iconic Guinness World Records book often found on coffee tables. “There are a lot of things I can’t do,” he reflected, “but everyone’s got a pair of underpants, so I thought, let’s do it.”
Training for this unique challenge involved significant physical preparation, particularly squats. Manning creatively integrated his fitness routine into his parenting, doing squats while reading bedtime stories to his child. He also enlisted her help in training, turning the process into a fun bonding activity.
However, the record attempt wasn’t as straightforward as it seemed. Manning had to adhere to specific rules, including wearing a designated type of underwear that wouldn’t glide up his legs. He discovered that increasing the size of the pairs helped him get his legs through the holes more quickly.
After his impressive performance, Manning felt a mix of pride and exhaustion, only to later find out he had been battling COVID-19 during the attempt. “I was bed bound for about a week after,” he revealed, showcasing not just his record-breaking achievement but also his resilience.
