The Weeknd has set yet another milestone in his illustrious career by becoming the artist with the most songs surpassing one billion streams on Spotify. This week, “After Hours,” the title track from his 2020 album, hit the one billion mark, bringing the total number of songs by The Weeknd in Spotify’s exclusive Billions Club to 18.
This achievement places him ahead of fellow artist Drake, who now holds second place with 17 songs in the club. Drake, who initially helped The Weeknd rise to fame early in his career, has had a more strained relationship with the singer in recent years.
Among The Weeknd’s other songs that have reached this milestone are global hits like “Blinding Lights,” “Can’t Feel My Face,” “Starboy,” and “One of the Girls,” a collaboration with Blackpink’s Jennie and Lily-Rose Depp from his HBO series, The Idol. “Blinding Lights,” in particular, stands out not only for its success but for holding the record as the most-streamed song on Spotify, boasting more than 4.4 billion streams to date.
As The Weeknd continues to dominate the music world, he is preparing for the release of his highly anticipated sixth studio album, Hurry Up Tomorrow. While no official release date has been announced, fans have been treated to the album’s lead single, “Dancing in the Flames,” which debuted earlier this month.
