Indian traveller Sujoy Kumar Mitra has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records for completing the fastest visit to the New Seven Wonders of the World. Mitra accomplished this feat in an impressive time of 5 days, 17 hours, and 28 minutes, marking a new milestone in the world of travel.
Mitra’s extraordinary journey began on September 2, 2024, in Petra, Jordan, and concluded on September 8, 2024. His remarkable achievement highlights the modern-day potential for efficient travel, driven by both human determination and advancements in transportation.
Mitra, already renowned for his extensive travel history, has solidified his place as one of India’s most accomplished globetrotters. He is among the rare few to have visited all 198 countries, including the 193 United Nations member states, along with Vatican City, Taiwan, Kosovo, Palestine, and Antarctica.
This latest accomplishment adds to Mitra’s impressive list of Guinness World Records. He previously set records for the fastest travel across all seven continents and for visiting 25 Michelin-starred restaurants in a single day.
The logistics of his latest feat, however, posed significant challenges. With tight schedules, flight connections, and potential delays, Mitra faced numerous obstacles, particularly during a critical moment at Beijing Airport. “I arrived just 45 minutes before my flight’s departure, and the immigration officers questioned my brief stay in China,” Mitra recalled. “Any extra questioning would have meant missing my onward flight.”
In line with Guinness World Records guidelines, Mitra relied solely on scheduled public transportation for his journey. Licensed taxis were only permitted for distances under 50 kilometers between transportation hubs or accommodations. His attempt demanded meticulous planning, with thorough documentation required at each wonder, including time-stamped photographs, video recordings, and witness signatures.
Upon receiving confirmation of his latest world record, Mitra reflected on the significance of the journey: “This achievement represents the culmination of meticulous planning and a passion for global exploration. It’s not just about setting a record but experiencing these incredible wonders of human creativity and perseverance in rapid succession.”
Mitra hopes his accomplishment will inspire others to explore the world’s rich cultural heritage. “Travel broadens one’s perspective. The most enriching stories are often found between the pages of a passport,” he remarked.
Mitra’s ambitions do not end here. He revealed that he is currently pursuing a total of 13 Guinness World Records. Of these, five have already been achieved, two are under validation, and six more are in the planning stages.
Mitra’s record underscores not only his individual dedication but also the advancements in global travel that make such feats possible. It is a testament to both human ingenuity and the ease with which travelers today can experience the wonders of the world in a remarkably condensed time frame.
