ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) — At 92 years old, Hank Ameen is celebrating an incredible milestone: 62 years with The Walt Disney Company, making him the current longest-serving employee.
Ameen’s journey with Disney began in 1955 when he and his wife visited Disneyland during their honeymoon. Three years later, after completing his service in the Air Force, he officially joined the company as a Jungle Cruise skipper, leveraging his previous experience as a bartender.
After several seasons, Ameen sought new challenges and joined the Garden Grove Fire Department, where he enjoyed a 35-year career as a city firefighter. However, his passion for Disneyland remained strong. He returned to the park, working as a firefighter on his days off, overseeing pyrotechnic safety during the park’s spectacular fireworks shows.
Now, decades later, Ameen continues to protect the safety of cast members and guests, drawing on his extensive experience.
Throughout his remarkable career, Ameen has created unforgettable memories, including a cherished moment spent with Walt Disney himself. “He started walking towards my table, but I never thought he would sit with me,” Ameen recalled. “He pulled up a chair and asked me questions like, ‘How do you like working here? How do you like the food? What can I do?’ It was maybe a 10-minute conversation, but it was a wonderful memory.”
Congratulations, Hank, on your extraordinary journey and dedication to Disney!
