Switzerland has long been a premier destination for skiing, and now one of its resorts has claimed the top spot as the best in the world, according to a new ranking. Five Swiss ski resorts made it into the top 20, while Austria dominated the list with 12 entries.
From glamorous Alpine getaways to affordable slopes in places like Serbia, Europe is home to some of the world’s finest ski resorts. To help travelers choose their perfect winter retreat, travel booking website Omio has unveiled a comprehensive ranking of global ski resorts.
The ranking was based on an analysis of more than 6,000 ski resorts, evaluated across 11 key factors. These included the cost of adult, youth, and child tickets, customer ratings, the availability of ski schools, the total length of the courses, and the number of events hosted throughout the season.
A Swiss Resort Named Best in the World
Taking the top spot in Omio’s rankings is Arosa Lenzerheide, a Swiss ski resort located in the Lenzerheide region of eastern Switzerland. The resort earned an impressive score of 91.73 on Omio’s custom index, just edging out Austria’s Sölden, which came in second with a score of 91.68.
According to the research, Arosa Lenzerheide boasts a stellar average customer rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars. Although its ticket prices are on the higher side—€89 for adults, €59 for youths, and €29 for children—the resort’s state-of-the-art facilities and wide range of ski runs make it a worthwhile investment.
For ski enthusiasts, Arosa Lenzerheide offers 225 kilometers of slopes with consistently reliable snow coverage. With 43 lifts in operation, skiers and snowboarders can enjoy the slopes without facing long wait times. Additionally, the resort hosts seven major events during the ski season, including the FIS Ski Cross World Cup Arosa and the Swiss Snow Walk and Run, further adding to its appeal.
Travelers can easily access the resort via Zurich airport, the nearest major hub, or by train from other European cities.
Europe Dominates the Global Ski Rankings
It’s no surprise that Europe leads the global ski rankings, thanks to its mountainous geography and long-standing tradition of ski tourism. The Alps, in particular, have been a favorite destination for generations of skiers. European resorts claimed all 20 spots in the top rankings, with Swiss and Austrian destinations dominating the list.
Switzerland alone has five resorts in the top 20, while Austrian resorts took 12 of the spots. Italy and France also secured placements in the rankings, further cementing Europe’s status as the go-to destination for winter sports enthusiasts.
Whether you’re seeking luxurious Alpine lodges or well-rounded resorts with family-friendly amenities, this year’s rankings provide valuable insights to help skiers and snowboarders find the perfect destination for their next winter adventure.
