In an extraordinary feat, Sumaiya Khan, a 24-year-old woman from Bangladesh, has set a new Guinness World Record by consuming 37 individual grains of rice using chopsticks in just one minute.
Khan, who has been using chopsticks for her meals for several years, shared that her passion for this dining utensil began with her love for ramen and Korean culture. “I had a thing for ramen back in the day; I was obsessed with it. That’s when I got my own personal chopsticks. Since then, I’ve eaten almost all of my food with them, especially rice, which is a staple in my Bangladeshi diet,” she explained.
The inspiration to attempt the record came from a coworker who recognized Khan’s impressive rice-eating skills and suggested she could break the existing record of 27 grains. Embracing the challenge, Khan successfully surpassed the record, demonstrating remarkable precision and speed as she lifted each grain of rice one at a time.
“It feels surreal, it feels amazing, and everyone around me is proud of me for actually attempting it,” Khan expressed after her achievement. “I feel proud of myself, too, because it’s such a great thing to accomplish. Having my name out there in the world and being part of something so significant is truly incredible. I feel honored, blessed, and proud, along with every other good thing I can say about it.”
