This year’s World Series, featuring a showdown between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers, is on track to become the most expensive in history.
According to reseller TickPick, the average ticket price is currently around $1,703 on the secondary market. This figure surpasses the previous record of $1,691 set in 2016 and is more than double the average price of $776 for last year’s Series, where the Texas Rangers claimed their first championship.
The highly anticipated Series kicks off this week, with the first game scheduled for Friday in Los Angeles. Fans looking to attend will find the cheapest ticket priced at $975. Notably, game three, which will be played in New York, features standing room-only tickets costing $1,476 and physical seats priced at $1,790.
Several factors contribute to the soaring ticket prices. Both the Yankees and Dodgers represent two of the largest cities in the United States and boast some of baseball’s biggest stars, including Shohei Ohtani from the Dodgers and Aaron Judge from the Yankees. This matchup is particularly significant as it marks the first time in over 40 years that the two teams will compete in the World Series, with their last encounter dating back to 1981.
The Yankees hold the record for the most World Series championships with 27 titles, while the Dodgers, who won the Series four years ago, have secured a total of seven championships.
In addition to high ticket prices, viewership ratings for the Fox broadcast network, which will air the Series, are also expected to reach record levels. The teams hail from the two largest TV markets, and their playoff performances have attracted substantial audiences. Fox Sports reported that ratings for its cable networks, FS1 and Fox Deportes, along with its streaming platforms, have averaged 5.6 million viewers across the six games of the National League Championship Series, the highest figures since 2019.
Similarly, TBS, which is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, noted that ratings for the American League Championship Series featuring the Yankees and the Cleveland Guardians also achieved multi-year highs, with games airing on truTV and streaming on Max.
