MACAU – The Judiciary Police (PJ) have announced the seizure of 11.1 kilograms of crystal meth, marking the largest drug trafficking case in Macau’s history. The operation, reported by public broadcaster TDM, reveals an estimated black market value of MOP 36.3 million.
On Sunday, authorities arrested a 27-year-old Taiwanese man at the airport, who is believed to have used Macau as a transit point for the drugs destined for Hong Kong. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover the criminal organization behind the operation and to assess whether other trafficking groups are utilizing Macau as a hub.
Recent intelligence prompted the PJ to monitor a drug trafficking ring suspected of orchestrating the smuggling of crystal meth from Southeast Asia into Macau. Following a thorough investigation, the suspect was apprehended Sunday evening after arriving on a flight from Thailand. According to police reports, the man appeared visibly nervous during questioning, which led officers to inspect his luggage.
Inside, they discovered three large gift boxes, each containing packages of crystal meth disguised as tea. Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to his role in the operation, revealing that he had been instructed by the syndicate to transport the drugs by plane to Macau, with a promised reward of MOP 12,000 for successfully delivering the package to its intended location.
