A unique hotel in the Philippines has earned a place in the Guinness World Records as the largest building in the shape of a chicken. The “Manok ni Cano Gwapo” hotel, located at the Campuestohan Highland Resort in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, stands at a remarkable height of 34.931 meters (114 feet 7 inches).
Designed to honor the region’s thriving game fowl industry, the hotel is a nod to Negros Occidental’s second-largest industry, following sugar production. Ricardo “Cano” Tan, the owner of the hotel, emphasized the importance of the fighting cock sector, which has served as a crucial livelihood for many, especially during times of economic downturn in the sugar market.
During the hotel’s inauguration on October 19, 2024, Tan shared his vision of creating a landmark that acknowledges the hard work of local cock breeders. The construction of the rooster-shaped hotel began on June 10, 2023, and was completed after 456 days on September 8, 2024. The project faced significant challenges, including the region’s frequent storms and typhoons, which required careful consideration during the design and construction phases to ensure the building’s resilience.
The hotel features 15 rooms, each equipped with modern amenities such as air conditioning and large flat-screen televisions, offering a comfortable stay for families.
Since opening, Campuestohan Highland Resort has become a popular destination for tourists, boasting attractions like a wave pool, a large restaurant, and various themed areas, including dinosaur and cartoon figure displays. However, the addition of the giant chicken hotel has quickly become the focal point of the resort, drawing both local and international visitors.
The Department of Tourism of the Philippines has praised the hotel as a significant addition to Negros Occidental’s tourism landscape, enhancing the region’s appeal and solidifying its status as a must-see destination in the country.
