Cotuí, DR – The Dominican Republic has made history by earning the Guinness World Records title for the largest Majarete, a traditional Dominican dessert, prepared at the Festur Sánchez Ramírez 2024 fair. Weighing in at a remarkable 858.95 kilos, this record-breaking Majarete was prepared at the Hatillo Dam in Cotuí, marking the Dominican Republic as the first country to achieve a Guinness World Record in the gastronomic category.
The event was organized by the Ecotourism Council of Sánchez Ramírez, with strong support from the Special Fund for Agricultural Development (FEDA), and coordinated by SMA Group. Chef Solangel Velázquez, along with a team of 19 other chefs, led the preparation of the massive dessert, dedicating over eight hours to crafting the Majarete. The achievement was made possible through the contributions of key sponsors, including Nestlé and the Ministry of Tourism.
Local authorities and FEDA representatives emphasized the event’s significance, not only in the field of gastronomy but also as a tool for promoting tourism, boosting the local economy, and celebrating the cultural identity of Sánchez Ramírez.
