Gutian County in Ningde City, located in southeast China’s Fujian Province, made headlines on December 2 by setting a new Guinness World Record. The challenge involved creating the Chinese characters “Gutian Yin’er,” meaning “Gutian Tremella Mushroom,” using 15,000 photographs of tremella mushrooms.
This new achievement breaks the previous record for the largest photo word, which was formed using 10,879 images. Xiong Wen, the Guinness World Records certification officer, confirmed the accomplishment.
Known as the “capital of edible fungi,” Gutian has built a reputation for its significant production of tremella mushrooms. The region has been a leader in the artificial cultivation of these mushrooms since the 1960s, pioneering innovative growing techniques, such as cultivating tremella mushrooms in bottles. Today, Gutian hosts the largest tremella mushroom production base in China.
With its successful world record attempt, Gutian is positioning itself as the global center for tremella mushroom production. The achievement not only brings international recognition but also underscores the cultural importance of edible mushrooms in the region.
