Mazatlán, Sinaloa, has achieved a historic milestone by setting the Guinness World Record for the largest folk music band ever assembled. The record-breaking event took place in the Valentino area of the city, where 255 musicians and invited artists performed in front of local officials and a captivated audience.
The sound of Sinaloa’s signature tambora drum filled the air as the massive ensemble played in unison, marking a moment of pride for the region. The event was officially recognized by Alfredo Arista, the Guinness World Records adjudicator, who confirmed the record-breaking performance.
In his remarks, Arista spoke about the purpose behind the Guinness World Records organization, emphasizing its mission to inspire global positivity and harmony. “I would like to tell you a little bit about the mission of Guinness World Records, which is to inspire the world to be a better place, full of harmony, full of happiness, and today was a clear example of what that mission is about,” he stated.
Mazatlán’s mayor, Estrella Palacios Domínguez, expressed her joy and pride over the achievement. “Congratulations, we are all so excited! A huge thank you to all the musicians who made this possible. The tambora of Sinaloa was heard, it resounded in the heart of Mazatlán, and we can now hold this Guinness record. As the representatives here say, we try to make the world a better place, and we do that through our culture, our traditions, and of course, our Sinaloan music. Long live Mazatlán!” she said, sharing her excitement in a statement.
The monumental band was conducted by Germán Lizárraga, who led the musicians through the performance. The event, organized by the Mexican Entertainment Association, was not just a record-breaking feat, but also a celebration of the region’s rich cultural heritage.
This achievement highlights how music can unite people, carrying with it the spirit of tradition and identity. The beats of the tambora will undoubtedly continue to resonate in the hearts of those who witnessed the historic moment.
