Today is a monumental day for Jyoti Amge, the world’s shortest woman. As she celebrates her 31st birthday, she has added yet another world record to her impressive collection. Standing at just 2 feet 0.7 inches (62.8 cm), Jyoti continues to captivate the world with her extraordinary achievements.
Earlier this year, Jyoti made a special appearance for Guinness World Records Day, where she was joined by the world’s tallest woman, Rumeysa Gelgi, in London. While there, she marked an early birthday celebration, and it was hard not to notice how the party treats looked supersized next to her petite frame, even when the cake was shaped like a caterpillar!
In the spirit of celebration, Jyoti gasped in delight when she uncovered her birthday cake. Surrounded by friends and the Guinness World Records team, she blew out the candles and made a wish before slicing herself a piece of chocolate cake. To the surprise of everyone watching, the kitchen knife she used to cut the cake appeared comically large in her small hands, which led to another fascinating discovery.
While in London, Jyoti’s hands were officially measured, breaking yet another record: she now holds the title for the smallest hands on a person (female). Her left hand measures 2.79 inches (7.1 cm), and her right hand is just slightly larger at 2.83 inches (7.2 cm). To put this into perspective, her hands are almost half the height of a standard Coca-Cola can (4.8 inches; 12.2 cm) and smaller than the diameter of a baseball (2.9 inches; 7.4 cm). Everyday items like an iPhone or a coffee mug look enormous in her hands, yet Jyoti manages to maneuver them with ease, proving that her accomplishments aren’t defined by size.
Interestingly, Jyoti’s hands, while exceptionally small, are still larger than those of Afshin Ghaderzadeh, the world’s shortest man (who measures 2 feet 1.69 inches; 65.24 cm). His left hand measures 2.63 inches (6.7 cm), and his right hand is 2.51 inches (6.4 cm).
When Jyoti met Rumeysa Gelgi, the world’s tallest woman, they couldn’t resist comparing their hands. Jyoti’s tiny hands were dwarfed next to Rumeysa’s, whose fingers have also earned her a Guinness World Record for being the longest on a living person (female), with one measuring a staggering 4.4 inches (11.2 cm). Rumeysa’s hands are so large, in fact, that her fingers are longer than Jyoti’s entire hand!
The contrast in hand size between these two world record holders is a striking reminder of how diverse and fascinating the world of human records can be. While Jyoti’s hands may be the smallest, she certainly holds a massive place in the record books—and in the hearts of those who have been inspired by her resilience and positivity.
Jyoti Amge’s journey with Guinness World Records began back in 2009, when she was named the shortest living teenager (female). At the time, she stood at just 2 feet (61.95 cm), and since then, she has grown only a tiny fraction—just 0.7 inches—but her impact has grown exponentially. As a beloved public figure, Jyoti has been an inspiration to millions worldwide, showing that it’s not the size of the person that matters, but the size of their heart and determination.
As Jyoti celebrates this new milestone, the world continues to marvel at her remarkable achievements. Here’s to more records, more celebrations, and more of Jyoti’s inspiring story ahead!
