New York, Dec. 16, 2024 — In an extraordinary feat combining sustainability, culinary creativity, and record-breaking ambition, Blue Stripes, a leader in sustainable chocolate, and celebrity chef Nick DiGiovanni have officially set a new Guinness World Record for the largest chocolate bar ever made. The colossal creation, measuring an impressive 416 square meters (27m x 15.4m), was unveiled in Ecuador, surpassing the previous record of 383.24 square meters set in the Netherlands in 2020.
The massive chocolate bar took 12 hours to assemble. The team, including DiGiovanni and Blue Stripes co-founders Oded Brenner and Aviv Schwietzer, connected 20cm x 25cm chocolate squares with melted chocolate acting as an edible “glue.” The result was a monumental, gleaming chocolate masterpiece that not only broke a record but also showcased Blue Stripes’ commitment to sustainability in the chocolate industry.
While breaking a world record was an exciting challenge, the mission behind the record was far more meaningful. The project was designed to raise awareness about the global cacao crisis and inspire sustainable innovation in chocolate production. The focus was on Blue Stripes’ core mission: to combat challenges faced by cacao farmers worldwide by utilizing whole cacao—including parts of the cacao fruit that are typically discarded during the traditional chocolate-making process.
“This was about more than just breaking a record,” said Oded Brenner, Blue Stripes’ founder. “It was about spotlighting the challenges in the cacao industry and showing the world how we can reimagine chocolate, using every part of the cacao fruit to reduce waste, add value to cacao farmers, and create something extraordinarily delicious and healthy.”
The record-breaking chocolate bar was not just a culinary achievement—it was a call to action for a more sustainable future in chocolate production. By utilizing cacao fruit waste, Blue Stripes aims to reduce the environmental impact of the industry while simultaneously increasing value for farmers without the need for additional crops.
The location of this groundbreaking event was Ecuador, one of the world’s leading cacao producers and a hub for sustainable cacao farming. Blue Stripes produces all of its products in Ecuador, and the country’s rich cacao heritage provided a perfect backdrop for the milestone achievement. Ecuador’s commitment to upcycling cacao fruit waste further aligns with Blue Stripes’ mission of innovation in sustainability.
After the record was certified by Guinness World Records, the massive chocolate bar was broken into over 100,000 servings and generously donated to schools and community centers in Ecuador, spreading joy and raising awareness about sustainable cacao practices.
To continue raising awareness about sustainability in the cacao industry, Blue Stripes is launching a special sweepstakes. Customers have the chance to win a Blue Stripes Solid Gold Chocolate Bar worth $10,000 and a lifetime supply of Blue Stripes chocolate. The sweepstakes runs from December 10th, 2024, to February 28th, 2025, coinciding with the holiday season, which traditionally sees 65% of the year’s chocolate sales.
This sweepstakes not only celebrates the record but also encourages consumers to learn more about Blue Stripes’ commitment to sustainable cacao farming and to enjoy their delicious products.
“I’ve always loved pushing boundaries with food and taking on record-breaking challenges—and when that’s paired with making an impact (distributing chocolate all over Ecuador) and educating the world on the cacao industry, it’s even more fun,” said Nick DiGiovanni, the celebrity chef behind the record-breaking creation. “I had so much fun in Ecuador, and I can’t wait to continue my partnership with Blue Stripes to keep making waves in the culinary world.”
This historic achievement is a celebration of innovation, sustainability, and the global impact that conscious companies like Blue Stripes are making in the food industry. As the chocolate bar’s record-breaking size leaves a lasting impression, it serves as a sweet reminder of how sustainable practices can lead to extraordinary results.
