A British board game enthusiast has once again broken his own Guinness World Record for the largest collection of Monopoly memorabilia, with an impressive total of 4,379 items. Neil Scallan, known for his passion for Monopoly, has steadily increased the size of his collection over the years, surpassing his previous milestones of 1,677 sets in 2016, 1,999 in 2017, and 2,249 in 2018.
Scallan’s collection is predominantly made up of various editions of the iconic board game, collected from his travels around the world. Each set represents not just a game, but a unique memento from different countries.
“I started with the standard set. Then, as I traveled, I began picking up Monopoly versions from different countries,” Scallan explained in an interview with Guinness World Records. “The sets often featured places I had visited, so it became a meaningful souvenir, combining my love for travel with my passion for collecting.”
Despite the impressive size of his collection, Scallan is still on the hunt for one particularly elusive edition: a rare Monopoly set made for the Cronulla Sharks, an Australian rugby team. According to Scallan, this set is highly sought after by collectors.
“The Cronulla Sharks edition is the one that everyone, including myself, is after,” he said. “I was once at the Winning Moves headquarters in Sydney, and they had one on display. I couldn’t help but ask if I could have it, but the owner told me it was his personal edition.”
While Scallan’s collection continues to grow, it is clear that the search for this rare set remains a key goal in his ongoing Monopoly journey.
