A remarkable four-member family from Anakapalli, currently residing in China, has achieved multiple Guinness World Records in the fields of yoga and sports. Konatala Vijay, his wife Jyoti, their 14-year-old daughter Jasmita, and their 4-year-old son Shankar have all made their mark in the prestigious record book, showcasing exceptional skills across various disciplines.
“We are proud to be the only family in the world to hold records in both the Yoga and Sports categories in the Guinness World Records,” Vijay shared with The Chronicle.
The family’s journey to record-breaking success began in 2021 when Konatala Vijay set a world record by holding advanced yoga postures—Astavakrasana, Mayurasana, and Bakasana—for the longest duration. His extraordinary feat earned him a place not only in the Guinness World Records but also in the Asian Book of Records, India Book of Records, and Nobel World Records.
Vijay’s wife, Jyoti, followed suit in 2021, setting a Guinness World Record while pregnant. She performed Vriksasana, Samakonasana, Sirshasana, and Mandalasana for extended periods while in the late stages of her pregnancy, delivering their son just five days later. “This achievement breaks the common misconception about physical exertion during late pregnancy,” Jyoti stated. “With proper guidance, yoga can be both safe and beneficial for the mother and the baby.”
The Konatala family’s record-breaking journey didn’t stop there. In June 2024, their daughter Jasmita set a Guinness World Record for the fastest skips on one leg over a rope in one minute. Meanwhile, their son Shankar made history in October 2024 by achieving the most skips on a trampoline in one minute—129 skips to be exact. At just 4 years old, Shankar became the youngest person in the world to set such a record, surpassing the 30-year-old record previously held by Japanese athlete Yu Okamoto.
With their impressive accomplishments, the Konatala family aims to inspire others around the world to pursue excellence in both yoga and sports. Their achievements not only highlight their individual skills but also reflect their dedication to promoting health, fitness, and discipline across generations.
“We hope our records inspire others to push their limits and believe in the power of consistent practice, whether in yoga or sports,” Vijay added.
The Konatala family’s inspiring story is a testament to the power of determination and the incredible achievements that can be accomplished through discipline, perseverance, and family support.
