Greek basketball legend Dimitris Diamantidis has been named the best player in EuroLeague history, as voted by the fans. The public vote, which concluded on January 8, saw Diamantidis top the rankings ahead of the second phase of the EuroLeague All-25 team selection.
Diamantidis, a revered figure in Panathinaikos and Greek basketball, earned 3.20% of the public vote. This vote will account for 10% of the overall selection process for the best 25 players in EuroLeague history. The remaining 90% of the vote will be determined by several key groups:
40% will come from votes by former tournament MVPs and members of the top teams from the 2000–2010 and 2010–2020 decades.
40% will be decided by coaches who have won the EuroLeague.
10% will be based on votes from journalists.
Sarunas Jasikevicius finished in second place, just ahead of Vassilis Spanoulis, with both securing around 3.01% of the vote. EuroLeague president Dejan Bodiroga (2.80%) and Theodoros Papaloukas (2.76%) rounded out the Top 5.
Diamantidis’ selection further solidifies his legacy as one of the greatest players in European basketball, following a decorated career with Panathinaikos and the Greek national team.
