Brentford head coach Thomas Frank has praised Pep Guardiola as the “best coach in the world” ahead of his team’s Premier League match against Manchester City on Tuesday night at Gtech Community Stadium. The Bees, who are preparing for the 7.30 pm (GMT) kick-off, are set to face City, who have struggled by their usual high standards this season.
Despite securing victories in their last two matches, City currently sit in sixth place, trailing Liverpool by 10 points. The upcoming clash will also see the Premier League’s two longest-serving managers go head-to-head, with Guardiola having joined Manchester City in July 2016, and Frank celebrating six years in charge of Brentford in October.
Speaking on Guardiola’s tenure at City and the team’s recent form, Frank stated: “Guardiola is, for me, the best coach in the world.” Frank highlighted that Guardiola’s exceptional ability sets him apart, adding, “He’s also the outlier because he can stay as long as he wants to.”
Frank acknowledged that while Guardiola, like any manager, faces the pressure to deliver results, his talent enables him to navigate challenges and find solutions. “Manchester City is a fantastic team with a fantastic coach and fantastic players,” Frank said. “It’s not surprising to me that they’ve had a dip, because no team can maintain consistent success year after year, especially in the world’s best league.”
Reflecting on City’s recent struggles, Frank noted, “It’s impossible to always win, and what they’ve achieved in the last four years is remarkable. It shouldn’t be possible, and yet they’ve done it, which is hugely impressive. Pep will bounce back and go again.”
The match will see both teams looking to gain momentum as they aim to continue their respective Premier League campaigns.
