Evan Fournier produced his best performance of the EuroLeague season, scoring a season-high 28 points on 5-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc to lead Olympiacos Piraeus to a dominant 96–86 road win over Real Madrid.
Fournier’s stellar second-half performance played a pivotal role in his team’s victory. He registered nine points in the final minutes of the third quarter, including back-to-back three-pointers that extended Olympiacos’ lead to 73–54. He continued his offensive onslaught in the fourth quarter, hitting another three-pointer to give Olympiacos an 81–61 advantage with just over six minutes remaining.
After the game, Fournier spoke to EuroLeague TV, reflecting on his mentality going into the match: “You’re always trying to prepare for those games, and you always prepare for every game. Sometimes, depending on the matchup and what they’re doing, you have more opportunities. Always trying to be aggressive but also make the right play. Tonight ended up being like that.”
The win over Real Madrid capped off a successful double-game week for Olympiacos, as they also defeated Baskonia 14/1 earlier in the week. The victory marked their seventh consecutive win, bringing their record to 16–6 and keeping them at the top of the EuroLeague standings.
Fournier attributed the team’s success to their underdog mentality. “That was a hell of a week for us,” he said. “We came in with the mentality of the underdog. Real Madrid is playing well. They have a really good defense and are always tough to play against them.” Real Madrid had been on a six-game winning streak before facing Olympiacos.
“When we have that spirit, that mindset, and that fight, this is when we play our best. It’s a great effort,” Fournier added, emphasizing the importance of the team’s determination and focus.
