After gathering insights from over 18,500 locals and combining them with expert opinions from a global network of city editors, the South African city outshone global metropolises like London, New York, and Melbourne to take the number one position.
Cape Town’s standout qualities were reflected in the survey results, with an impressive 97% of locals expressing happiness about living in the city. Its food scene garnered a 95% approval rating, and 82% of residents described Cape Town as beautiful. The city’s combination of vibrant urban life and stunning natural landscapes helped propel it to the top.
Cape Town offers visitors an array of experiences, from the iconic Table Mountain to pristine Blue Flag beaches and colonies of African penguins. The city’s cultural offerings are equally impressive, with bustling bars, restaurants, and the renowned Time Out Market contributing to its appeal. The city is also celebrated for its rich history, making it a perfect blend of nature, culture, and urban charm.
Andrew Hallett, Time Out South Africa’s content director, highlighted the city’s diversity of experiences, writing: “Steeped in history and cultural significance, Cape Town provides visitors with a plethora of options to learn, explore, and have fun, all without breaking the bank.” He suggested exploring the trendy Kalk Bay for a taste of the local fishing culture, heading to East City for Capetonian food and design, or embracing nature at the Cape Point Nature Reserve.
