Curry bread, or “karepan,” has achieved yet another milestone in the Guinness World Records, this time for the Most Curry Bread Sold in 8 Hours. The record was set by Co-operative Network Hokkaido at the renowned Sapporo Snow Festival in Hokkaido on February 8, 2025.
The event kicked off at 11 a.m. and saw sales continue until 5:30 p.m., when all the curry breads had been sold out. The group managed to sell an impressive 11,208 karepan, surpassing the previous record of 8,340, held by Pan No Tora from Aichi. Their achievement earned them the prestigious Guinness World Record certification later that evening.
The record-breaking curry breads featured a Luxury Smoked Scallop and Rich Beef filling, made with locally sourced Hokkaido ingredients. These were sold in a two-piece set for 500 yen (approximately US$3.25). Customers who sampled the breads praised their superior quality, especially the standout flavors of scallop and beef, which set them apart from traditional curry breads.
While the Sapporo stall’s success is now part of record history, the Co-operative Network Hokkaido plans to continue selling these delicious curry breads at local Coop Sapporo supermarkets. However, those outside the region may have to satisfy their karepan cravings with convenience store versions for the time being.
