Do you play a musical instrument? If so, your musical talents might just be your ticket to Guinness World Records (GWR) glory! Here are six incredible world records achieved by musicians of all ages, including some surprises involving a cat!
Youngest Female Club DJ
Imagine performing a 70-minute DJ set in front of 100 people—now, picture doing it at just 6 years and 155 days old! This remarkable feat was accomplished by Rinoka from Japan, who took the stage at a club in Tokyo on 9 July 2023. Less than a year after getting her first DJ controller, Rinoka confidently stepped up to the challenge.
The record for the youngest male club DJ belongs to Archie Norbury from the UK, who, at just 4 years and 130 days old, took to the decks in Hong Kong on 30 March 2019.
Most Guitar Amplifiers Used Simultaneously
On 25 February 2024, Jon Locker of the USA set a new record for the most guitar amplifiers used simultaneously—an astounding 81 amps! These amplifiers, which amplify a guitar’s sound, are typically used one at a time, but Jon’s epic setup was a loud, 81-amp experiment that took three days to complete, including setup, testing, and record-breaking.
Longest Marathon Drumming by an Individual
Allister Brown from the UK set the record for the longest marathon drumming session by an individual, drumming for a staggering 150 hours and 1 minute between 16 and 22 July 2023. This was Allister’s third time breaking his own record, having previously set marks of 58 hours in 2003 and 102 hours in 2008. His dedication is a reminder that with practice, the sky’s the limit!
Largest Orchestra
On 13 November 2021, a record-breaking 8,573 musicians from Venezuela’s El Sistema Nacional de Orquestas y Coros Juveniles e Infantiles (National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras and Choirs of Venezuela) performed Tchaikovsky’s “Slavic March.” This orchestral giant included musicians aged 12 to 77, playing a range of instruments from piccolos to violins.
Most Piano Key Hits in One Minute
On 20 December 2024, Keita Hattori of Japan achieved an extraordinary 1,030 hits on a single piano key in just one minute! Not only is Keita a piano virtuoso, but he also holds six other GWR titles, including:
- Fastest time to solve a 6-level Tower of Hanoi (23.03 seconds, as of 24 October 2024)
- Most piano key hits in 30 seconds (533, as of 20 December 2024)
- Most single-stroke roll drumbeats in 3 minutes (3,706, as of 13 January 2025).
First Piano Concerto for a Cat
In a whimsical turn of events, Nora, a rescue cat from the USA, made history on 5 June 2009 as the first cat to perform in a piano concerto. After seeing Nora play the piano on YouTube, Lithuanian composer Mindaugas Piečaitis wrote a 4-minute piano concerto specifically for her and an orchestra. The performance, titled “Catcerto,” was staged at Klaipėda Concert Hall, with Nora playing along to a video of herself pawing at the piano. Sadly, Nora passed away in February 2024, but her musical legacy lives on through her YouTube channel, which has 25.2k subscribers.
These records highlight the extraordinary ways people—and even pets—have pushed the boundaries of musical achievement. Who knows? Your musical skills might be the next to make history!
