BARCELONA, Spain – ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), in collaboration with China Unicom and YunHuan Technology, has won the prestigious “Best Mobile Innovation for Cities” award at the 2025 Global Mobile (GLOMO) Awards during MWC Barcelona. The award recognizes their groundbreaking “5G-A Smart City Low-Altitude Blood Delivery” project, which leverages 5G-A Integrated Sensing and Communication technology to revolutionize emergency medical logistics.
Transforming Urban Blood Delivery with 5G-A and Drones
Addressing the challenges of traditional blood delivery, such as traffic congestion and slow emergency response times, the Anyang City-based initiative utilizes a drone-based transport system to ensure rapid and reliable medical deliveries.
Key features of the project include:
- 1,200 km² urban airspace coverage
- 10 drone delivery routes spanning over 15 km each
- 50+ drone flights per day
- Largest low-altitude medical drone network in the industry
The system delivers blood products, lab samples, pathological sections, emergency medicines, and surgical supplies to multiple hospitals across the city.
Significant Impact on Healthcare Efficiency
According to operational data, the project has achieved:
- 60% reduction in blood delivery time (from 40 minutes to 15 minutes)
- 20% decrease in hospital blood costs
- 10% reduction in patient blood expenses
- Enhanced hospital emergency response and optimized surgery scheduling
By integrating 5G-A technology, the system enables real-time monitoring of drone positions and flight statuses with zero detection miss rate, ensuring safe and reliable operations.
Advancing Smart City Development with 5G-A
Looking forward, China Unicom, YunHuan Technology, and ZTE plan to expand 5G-A applications in urban management, emergency response, and other smart city initiatives. Their efforts contribute to the growing low-altitude economy, unlocking new opportunities for intelligent urban services.
