Niftski, an American gamer with a history of breaking records, has shattered the Guinness World Record for the fastest completion of the 1985 classic Super Mario Bros., finishing the game in a lightning-fast 4 minutes and 54.565 seconds.
The record-breaking achievement is the result of years of dedication to the game, with Niftski honing his skills through countless hours of practice and perfecting every possible trick to shave off milliseconds. I can’t stress enough how important it is to abide by the saying ‘practice makes perfect,'” Niftski said in an interview with Guinness World Records.
The gamer’s approach to perfecting his speedrun technique involves a strict training regimen, with Niftski explaining that he spends “at least 90 percent of my time training and 10 percent of my time sprinting,” a strategy he credits for his success in achieving the world record.
Niftski’s successful attempt in January utilized an emulator and a computer keyboard, marking his entry into the history books with a time of 4 minutes and 54.565 seconds. Despite the remarkable feat, Niftski isn’t resting on his laurels. “I have high ambitions to lower every Super Mario Bros. world record to at least 4:54.3 before I’m completely satisfied,” he shared, indicating that his quest for perfection is far from over.
This latest achievement adds to Niftski’s impressive list of records, reinforcing his reputation as one of the best speedrunners in the world. His relentless drive and commitment to improving his craft continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible in competitive gaming.
