LAWRENCEBURG, KY – Robert B. Turner (RBT) Elementary School was recognized for academic excellence during the recent Anderson County Schools (ACS) board meeting, earning both state and national honors.
Superintendent Sheila Mitchell presented Principal Jason Alexander with a distinguished award, celebrating the school’s exceptional performance. The recognition comes as RBT continues to demonstrate strong academic achievement at both the state and national levels.
The school was named one of the Best Public Elementary Schools by U.S. News & World Report, securing the 132nd spot among over 1,000 elementary schools in Kentucky. With an overall score of 80.45, the school’s performance highlights its commitment to student success.
Upon receiving the award, Alexander expressed his gratitude, emphasizing the dedication of students and staff.
“I want to say how grateful I am. It is an honor to be a Titan,” he said. “This achievement is because of the kids and the staff at Turner Elementary. I’m so thankful that our staff and students could be part of this recognition. It’s truly an honor to be a part of the Anderson County School District and to be a Titan.”
Academic Team Secures Historic Victory
In addition to the national recognition, RBT’s academic team achieved a historic milestone at the regional Governor’s Cup academic competition on March 1. For the first time in school history, the team clinched first place among 16 competing schools.
The Future Problem Solving team took home the first-place title, while the Quick Recall team remained undefeated throughout the season. Several students also earned top placements in individual categories, showcasing the school’s diverse academic talents.
Academic Team Coach Sarah Wallace, who has led the program for 14 years, expressed her pride in the students’ accomplishments.
“This is the most we’ve ever achieved, but more importantly, our team takes pride in being Titans,” Wallace said. “At the district level, we won the sportsmanship award because our students were humble and kind. Winning was wonderful, but at the end of the day, they showed the true spirit of being Titans.”
