The “Brother Overcoming Thousands of Obstacles” concert, held in Ho Chi Minh City on March 23, has not only wowed audiences but also set a Guinness World Record. With 5,000 people in attendance, all dressed in traditional Vietnamese attire, the event achieved the record for the largest gathering of people wearing national costumes. This achievement, recognized earlier in the day, marked an incredible milestone for the concert and the cultural pride it represented.
The concert was a grand celebration of Vietnam’s heritage, showcasing extraordinary performances by 33 talented artists. These artists brought iconic songs representing different regions of the country to life. A standout moment was the collaboration with guest performers People’s Artist Thu Huyền and People’s Artist Hữu Quốc, who added depth to the performances.
The stage production itself was a visually stunning spectacle. The show incorporated symbolic performances, such as a massive ensemble of dancers and illustrators that heightened the atmosphere, especially during the performance of Rice Drum with traditional drums, and the impressive imagery of a giant conical hat, five-colored flags, and a steel horse soaring across the stage. These performances left the audience in awe, especially as they continued into other patriotic and revolutionary songs like Áo Mùa Đông (Winter Coat) and Mẹ Yêu Con (Mother Loves Her Child).
The concert didn’t just celebrate Vietnam’s national pride; it also explored personal themes, striking an emotional chord with the audience. Songs like Bao Tiền Một Mớ Bình Yên (How Much for a Piece of Peace) resonated deeply with the younger generation facing uncertainty, while family-centric songs like Chuyện Nhà Bé Thôi (Just a Small Family Matter) and Con Đừng Về (Don’t Come Home, Child) brought out the emotional connections with loved ones.
One of the most anticipated moments was the first-time performance by all 33 artists together, featuring solo performances and group acts that kept the energy high. Soobin’s performance of Giá Như (If Only) on a sand-covered stage was a crowd favorite, driving fans wild. While not all 33 artists had solo performances, including popular acts like Tiến Luật, Thiên Minh, and Duy Nhất, the group collaborations—such as Nước Hoa (Perfume) and Dẫu Có Lỗi Lầm (Even If There Were Mistakes)—reinvigorated the audience, ensuring everyone was engaged.
A particularly special moment came when Thanh Duy, Duy Khánh, BB Trần, and Jun Phạm presented a fresh rendition of Tình Anh Bán Chiếu (The Love of the Mat Seller), and Tuấn Hưng led the crowd in a heartfelt sing-along with Nắm Lấy Tay Anh (Hold My Hand), a new version of Quả Táo Vàng (Golden Apple). The night was also enlivened by the debut of 12:03 by S(TRONG) and Cường Seven, whose electrifying dance moves and catchy hip-hop beats had the audience on their feet.
Each artist shone in their own way, with S(TRONG) impressing with contemporary dance, Tiến Đạt and Hà Lê bringing stunning hip-hop performances, Soobin and Kiên Ứng showcasing their keyboard skills, and Đăng Khôi and Bằng Kiều strumming the guitar, while Tuấn Hưng amazed with his drumming skills. The concert was directed by Đinh Hà Uyên Thư and music director SlimV, blending vibrant musical styles with clever storytelling, Broadway-inspired love ballads, and jazz dance numbers, keeping the energy and mood fresh throughout the evening.
With all the dazzling performances, emotional moments, and cultural celebrations, “Brother Overcoming Thousands of Obstacles” not only set a Guinness World Record but also solidified itself as a powerful, unforgettable celebration of Vietnam’s artistic and cultural heritage.
