In the latest Instagram University Ranking for 2024 released by UniRank, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has secured a prestigious position among the top three most influential universities worldwide. UGM’s achievement places it alongside esteemed institutions like Harvard University and the University of Oxford, standing as a beacon of influence and engagement in the digital sphere.
With an impressive follower count of 1,305,015 during the evaluation period, UGM emerged as the sole representative from Indonesia among the top five universities globally. Notably, UGM’s Instagram following has since surged to 1,315,670, reaffirming its status as Indonesia’s most sought-after university.
Dr. Andi Sandi Antonius Tabusassa Tonralipu, the University Secretary, expressed pride in UGM’s ascent, noting, “Two years ago, we were honored to be among the top ten globally, but this year, we’ve ascended to the third position.” Dr. Tonralipu attributed this success to the tireless efforts of UGM’s social media management team, backed by various stakeholders, in consistently delivering impactful and engaging content to the public.
However, Dr. Tonralipu acknowledged the challenges inherent in social media management, including keeping pace with platform evolutions and catering to diverse audience demographics. Crafting substantive content in visually appealing formats requires dedication and adaptability, he emphasized, highlighting the ongoing commitment to improvement.
UGM’s influence extends beyond Instagram, as evidenced by its status as the most popular university in Indonesia on TikTok, according to RevoU’s 2023 findings. Moreover, UGM holds the distinction of being the first university account on both platforms to receive verification, symbolized by the coveted blue checkmark.
In addition to strengthening UGM’s primary social media presence, efforts are underway to enhance faculties’ and other units’ social media accounts. Dr. Tonralipu outlined strategic initiatives, such as activating public relations forums, to facilitate knowledge exchange among social media managers and experts.
Looking ahead, Dr. Tonralipu envisions social media platforms as instrumental in showcasing UGM’s excellence, contributions, and promotional endeavors in higher education. He expressed gratitude for the support and engagement from UGM’s community and beyond, emphasizing the role of social media in fostering community rapport and disseminating information effectively.
In conclusion, Dr. Tonralipu affirmed UGM’s commitment to continuous improvement and developmental pursuits, fueled by the achievement and momentum garnered from its influential presence on Instagram and other digital platforms.
