GOODYEAR, Ariz. – April 7, 2025 – The Lubbock Christian University men’s golf team delivered its strongest performance of the season on Monday during the opening rounds of the RJGA Palm Valley Classic, yet found itself in a tie for 10th place in a competitive 19-team field.
Competing in Goodyear, Arizona, the Chaparrals combined for a team score of 570—six under par—after 36 holes of play, marking their lowest cumulative score of the 2024–25 season.
Comer Returns Strong
Making his first appearance since the season opener, sophomore Jackson Comer led the Chaps with a two-round score of 142 (-2). Comer excelled on par 4 holes, posting a tournament-best 3.70 stroke average and a six-under-par total. His consistent play placed him in a tie for 24th overall after the first day.
Balanced Support from de Jager and Bowman
Just one stroke behind, teammates Tiaan de Jager and Hayden Bowman each carded a 143 (-1), tying for 32nd place. The pair shared the team lead in par 3 scoring, each averaging 3.13 (+1). Bowman stood out with ten birdies across two rounds, the most by any LCU player on the day.
Solid Play from Reagan and McCracken
Hudson Reagan turned in an even-par 144, placing him in a tie for 44th. Reagan also provided one of the tournament’s highlights for Lubbock Christian by recording the team’s only eagle—one of just 21 made during Monday’s action.
Bryce McCracken rounded out the team’s effort with a 146 (+2), finishing tied for 62nd. Despite his position on the leaderboard, McCracken was the steadiest of the Chaps in regulation, leading the team with 23 pars over the 36-hole stretch.
Final Round Set for Tuesday
Lubbock Christian will return to the course Tuesday for the final round of the RJGA Palm Valley Classic. With only a few strokes separating much of the leaderboard, the Chaparrals will aim to capitalize on their momentum and make a late surge in the season’s final regular-season event.
