Opened in 2009, The Upper House in Hong Kong is considered one of the world’s top city hotels, ranking fifth on the prestigious World’s 50 Best Hotels list.
Located in the Pacific Place complex, the hotel offers a blend of understated luxury and residential-style design. It is a peaceful haven amidst the busy city, known for spacious rooms, stunning views, and serene surroundings. The Upper House occupies the 38th to 49th floors of the JW Marriott building, standing out in a neighborhood dominated by larger hotels like the Conrad and Shangri-La.
The hotel is part of a luxury development, which includes the Pacific Place shopping mall and is easily accessible via the Admiralty MTR station. A 20-minute walk to Central offers a glimpse of the vibrant city life.
Upon entering, guests are greeted with a design that resembles a modern apartment rather than a traditional hotel. Created by renowned local designer Andre Fu, the hotel features natural materials, warm lighting, and a calm color palette. The tranquil atmosphere is enhanced by 400 pieces of artwork, including a stunning 98-foot sculpture by Hirotoshi Sawada in the 38th-floor atrium. Despite being 15 years old, the hotel remains sleek and contemporary.
The Upper House offers 117 rooms, including 21 suites, a penthouse, and a signature Andre Fu suite, complete with a dining room and spa. Even the smaller Studio 70 and Studio 80 rooms are spacious, resembling modern apartments with minimalist furniture and natural materials. The suites feature separate living areas with dining tables, cozy sofas, and art books. All rooms are equipped with Bamford toiletries and luxury amenities, while the suites offer bathtubs and rainforest showers. Guests can enjoy breathtaking views of Victoria Harbour or the Peak from the near floor-to-ceiling windows.
Service at The Upper House is exceptional, beginning with a seamless airport pick-up service, which includes a ride in a branded BMW. Upon arrival, guests can have food delivered to their room. The hotel also offers a small gym, hot yoga classes, and in-room spa services. For something unique, guests can experience the “Stone and Star Experience,” a private tarot card reading focusing on self-discovery.
On the 49th floor, Salisterra, the hotel’s Mediterranean restaurant, offers spectacular views of the harbor. The breakfast menu features local dishes like dim sum and congee, as well as Western options such as eggs and pancakes. For lunch and dinner, chef Ricardo Chaneton’s menu draws inspiration from Mediterranean countries, including Spain, Italy, France, and Greece.
The Upper House offers an exceptional blend of luxury, serenity, and convenience, making it one of the finest boutique hotels in Hong Kong.
