Liverpool have reportedly set their sights on Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz as a potential summer transfer target, according to CaughtOffside.
The Premier League leaders are not the only ones keen on the 21-year-old. Several top European and English clubs, including Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, are also monitoring Wirtz’s situation.
While Wirtz is expected to have a variety of offers this summer, he may choose to remain at Leverkusen by extending his current contract. The Bundesliga club is eager to secure his services for the long term, with plans to tie him down until June 2028. Any team looking to acquire Wirtz would need to pay a hefty fee, reported to be around €130 million (£115 million).
Real Madrid are thought to be the frontrunners for his signature, though Bayern and Manchester City are also set to intensify their efforts to bring him on board. Manchester City, in particular, sees Wirtz as a potential successor to Kevin De Bruyne, who is set to depart at the end of the season.
Liverpool are expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer under manager Arne Slot, following two quieter windows. In the past 12 months, the Reds have only added Federico Chiesa to their squad and have confirmed the arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili after the season ends.
Liverpool’s primary focus may shift to strengthening their attacking options, with uncertainty surrounding Darwin Núñez’s future. Reports suggest the Uruguayan forward is likely to leave Anfield this summer, with significant interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League.
