Arsenal are reportedly preparing to compete with top clubs across England and Europe to sign Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman this summer. According to sources, the Gunners plan to hold talks with the Nigerian international in the coming weeks.
After narrowly missing out on the Premier League title this season, Arsenal are looking to strengthen their squad. They hope new signings can help them end their 20-year wait for a league title. Lookman is seen as a potential key addition.
A report from CaughtOffside highlights that several Premier League clubs are monitoring Lookman’s situation. The winger has gained attention for his strong performances in Serie A, the Europa League last season, and the Champions League this year.
Barcelona have also shown interest and reportedly contacted Lookman’s representatives. However, the Spanish giants’ ongoing financial troubles could block any serious move, creating an opening for Arsenal.
Manager Mikel Arteta is said to admire the 26-year-old, and a return to England appears likely. Talks with Arsenal are expected soon. Lookman’s exit from Atalanta seems near after a public fallout with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini. This comes just months after the coach had praised him as “one of the best players in the world.”
