As the excitement of pageant season sweeps across the nation, Filipina beauty queens are dazzling audiences with their stunning ensembles at the Miss Universe Philippines national costume competition. Held at the Sultan Kudarat Gymnasium and Cultural Center, the event saw 53 candidates showcasing their intricately designed costumes inspired by the theme, Philippine Flora and Fauna.
Among the contestants, three emerged victorious in the Best National Costume category: Tamara Ocier representing Tacloban, Alexie Brooks hailing from Iloilo, and Jet Hammond representing Southern California.
Tamara Ocier’s national costume, crafted by designer Charlotte Rodriguez, paid homage to the sun goddess and Tacloban’s Monitor Lizard, affectionately known as “Halo” by locals. The ensemble captivated audiences with its intricate details and cultural significance.
Alexie Brooks stunned the crowd with a spider-inspired national costume, aptly named “Ugto-ugto,” after the orb-weaved spider found in Iloilo. Designed by Tata Blas-Pinuela, the costume showcased the creativity and craftsmanship of Filipino designers.
Jet Hammond of Southern California mesmerized onlookers with a national costume inspired by the breathtaking Tubbataha Reef. Created by designer Ehrran Montoya, the ensemble highlighted the beauty and diversity of Philippine marine life.
Each winner of the Best National Costume category was awarded a prize of P100,000, recognizing their outstanding creativity and representation of Philippine culture.
