Newsweek has unveiled its 2024 list of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals, and East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) proudly stands among the nation’s top healthcare institutions. This prestigious recognition places EAMC in the elite group of hospitals awarded a five-star ribbon score, the highest tier based on the list’s stringent criteria.
EAMC is one of only three hospitals in Alabama to receive this distinguished accolade, reflecting its commitment to providing exceptional maternal care. The hospital delivers over 2,000 babies annually, a testament to its significant investment in the Women’s and Children’s Center.
“Our region is growing quickly, and along with that is the need for exceptional maternal care, a need we strive to meet head-on,” said Laura Grill, president and CEO of East Alabama Health. “It is our privilege to care for mothers in our community, and to help them welcome healthy, happy babies into this world.”
In 2021, EAMC opened a Level III NICU, providing intensive care for newborns and enhancing its capacity to support complex births. The hospital is also designated as a baby-friendly facility by the United Nations Children’s Fund, further emphasizing its dedication to high-quality maternal and infant care.
EAMC offers a comprehensive suite of services for expectant mothers, including childbirth preparation and birth navigation classes led by experienced hospital nurses. These programs are designed to equip mothers for labor and delivery, ensuring they feel familiar and comfortable throughout the process.

The ranking criteria for Newsweek’s Best Maternity Hospitals list include nationwide surveys, patient experiences, and hospital quality metrics. This rigorous evaluation underscores EAMC’s excellence and dedication to maternal and infant health, solidifying its reputation as a leader in maternity care.
