Ali Brown, a resident of Lisburn, Northern Ireland, has been honored with his Guinness World Records certificate for achieving the longest marathon drumming session—a remarkable feat he accomplished for the third time. Last July, Ali embarked on an extraordinary journey of endurance, drumming continuously for an astounding 150 hours and one minute, marking his triumphant entry into the annals of world records.
Undeterred by physical and mental challenges, Ali’s marathon drumming session tested the limits of his endurance, as he played a staggering 2,500 songs over the course of almost a week. Sleep-deprived and fueled by unwavering determination, he embarked on this arduous endeavor to raise awareness and funds for two causes close to his heart: pancreatic cancer and mental health.
Ali’s motivation stemmed from a deeply personal loss—the passing of his partner, Sharon Deegan, to pancreatic cancer in January 2021 at the age of 49. In her memory, Ali dedicated his remarkable feat to raising awareness about the symptoms of pancreatic cancer, supporting affected families, and contributing to vital research efforts.
Throughout the grueling drumming marathon, Ali received invaluable support from his community, with friends, family, and supporters rallying around him at the Lisburn Music Centre. Their unwavering encouragement, along with occasional visits from physiotherapists, provided Ali with the necessary morale boost to persevere through moments of fatigue and discomfort.
Reflecting on his journey, Ali expressed profound gratitude for the outpouring of support that enabled him to achieve his dream. With the help of his dedicated support team and the generosity of donors, Ali raised an impressive £24,000, with half of the proceeds benefiting local pancreatic cancer charity NIPANC and the remainder supporting the UK mental health charity, Mind.
Ali’s preparation for the marathon involved rigorous training and meticulous planning, including practicing sleep deprivation techniques and managing breaks according to Guinness World Records regulations. Duncan Campbell, a longtime friend of Ali’s, played a pivotal role in supporting his endeavors, ensuring his success through careful attention to nutrition, hydration, and rest.
Dr. Mark Taylor, a pancreatic cancer surgeon and NIPANC Board Member, commended Ali’s remarkable achievement, highlighting the awe-inspiring endurance and determination he displayed throughout the marathon. As Ali’s triumphant journey is officially recognized by Guinness World Records, his legacy of courage and compassion continues to inspire others to embrace life’s challenges with resilience and resolve.
