UNSW Sydney has reaffirmed its status as one of the world’s leading universities by retaining its 19th position in the 2025 QS World University Rankings, marking its second consecutive year in the prestigious top 20.
The latest rankings underscore Australia’s standing as a hub of academic excellence, with three Australian universities securing spots in the global top 20.
Professor Attila Brungs, Vice-Chancellor and President of UNSW Sydney, hailed this achievement as a significant moment for the university, particularly in its 75th anniversary year. He emphasized the university’s unwavering dedication to students, innovation, and partnerships with community and industry.
Prof. Brungs remarked, “Today’s ranking announcement reflects our commitment to students, to innovation and to partnerships with community and industry. Over the past year a lot of hard work has gone into exceptional teaching, outstanding research and social impact.”

The QS World University Rankings, compiled by Quacquarelli Symonds, are widely respected within the higher education community for their comprehensive assessment of institutions worldwide. The 2025 edition includes 1503 institutions across 106 locations and places particular emphasis on factors such as employability and sustainability.
Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research & Enterprise (DVCR&E) Professor Merlin Crossley expressed delight at UNSW’s stellar performance in the rankings, particularly in the realm of sustainability.
