Traveling by air can be a mixed bag of experiences, and recent data from AirHelp sheds light on which airports provided smoother journeys and which ones left travelers in the lurch. Analyzing flight disruptions throughout May 2024, AirHelp identified the ten US airports that grappled with the most disruptions, as well as those that offered a more seamless travel experience.

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport – 45.6% of flights disrupted
Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport – 40.6% of flights disrupted
Charlotte Douglas International Airport – 37.8% of flights disrupted
O’Hare International Airport – 34.7% of flights disrupted
Miami International Airport – 31.7% of flights disrupted
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport – 30.5% of flights disrupted
Orlando International Airport – 30.5% of flights disrupted
Denver International Airport – 28.7% of flights disrupted
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport – 28.4% of flights disrupted
Ronald Reagan National Airport – 27.8% of flights disrupted
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport claimed the undesirable top spot, with nearly half of its flights experiencing disruptions. The Lone Star State dominated the list, with two Texas airports in the top three positions. Additionally, Florida featured prominently, with three airports making the list of worst performers.

Utah’s Salt Lake City International Airport emerged as the frontrunner for providing a smooth travel experience, with only 18.6% of its flights experiencing disruptions. Northeast airports, including those in New York City, Boston, and Philadelphia, garnered favorable rankings, along with West Coast hubs and select Midwestern airports.
As air travel continues to rebound and passenger volumes increase, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) anticipates a busy summer travel season, urging travelers to remain patient and informed amidst potential disruptions.
