For the first time, Nvidia, led by CEO Jensen Huang, has claimed the top spot on Fortune 500’s best-led companies list, surpassing back-to-back winner Microsoft. This ranking is part of the ReturnOnLeadership® (ROL100®), a unique metric developed by Fortune in partnership with Indiggo, which evaluates and quantifies key leadership fundamentals crucial for reducing risk and increasing success.
The ROL100 ranking, now in its fourth year, provides an “outside-in” view of Return On Leadership by leveraging Indiggo’s AI platform framework along with publicly available information. This methodology does not directly consider financial metrics like stock returns.
Top 5 Best-Led Companies:
- Nvidia
- Microsoft
- Cisco Systems
- Delta Air Lines
- ConocoPhillips
Key Metrics Highlighting Leadership Success:
The median EBITDA per employee for the top 25 companies is $111,000, compared to $41,000 for the bottom 25.
The median three-year revenue growth for the top 25 is +11.8%, while it’s +8.5% for the bottom 25.
These figures underscore a positive correlation between purpose-driven leadership and overall business success. Top-ranked companies on the ROL100 tend to outperform their lower-ranked counterparts in terms of revenue, profit, and growth.
Nvidia’s rise to the No. 1 spot is attributed to its high scores in strategic clarity, leadership alignment, and focused action, rather than its impressive stock performance, which saw a 198% increase over the past 12 months. Seth Verry, Indiggo’s chief research officer, noted, “Investors are always looking for signals, is now the time to buy or is now the time to sell?… Based on Nvidia’s No. 1 ranking, we see a company with strong leadership fundamentals that has set itself up for long-term success.”
Nvidia’s achievement reflects its robust leadership and strategic execution, setting a benchmark for purpose-driven leadership in the business world.
