In a recent analysis by U.S. News & World Report, three hospitals in Arizona have been recognized among the Best Regional Hospitals for Equitable Access. Banner-University Medical Center Phoenix, Banner-University Medical Center Tucson, and TMC Healthcare-Tucson have all secured positions on the esteemed list, comprising 53 hospitals nationwide.
The accolade, unveiled during an exclusive event in Washington titled “The State of Equity in America,” acknowledges the success of these hospitals in catering to patients from historically underserved communities. U.S. News convened leaders from various sectors, including business, government, health, and education, for a day focused on addressing disparities across the nation.
Tavia Binger, senior health data analyst at U.S. News, emphasized the significance of recognizing hospitals’ efforts to enhance care for underserved populations. She highlighted the importance of continued focus on prioritizing healthcare access for vulnerable communities facing social and economic challenges.
U.S. News’ comprehensive analysis identified 53 hospitals across 26 states that excel in providing excellent outcomes for disadvantaged communities. While these hospitals represent just a fraction of those nationwide serving socioeconomically vulnerable populations, they notably demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality care to historically underserved groups.
Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News, underscored the significance of acknowledging community hospitals leading in equitable access. He described it as a vital step toward ensuring equitable access to quality medical care for all individuals in the United States.
The selection criteria for the Best Regional Hospitals for Equitable Access included hospitals that had a significant percentage of patients from communities with greater socioeconomic deprivation, served a substantial number of racial/ethnic minority patients, and provided care to a significant proportion of Medicaid patients.
For individuals seeking healthcare options, hospitals designated as “Best” by U.S. News may serve as a valuable consideration in consultation with their medical providers.
