The Guinness World Records has officially recognized Ghanaian Chef Ebenezer Smith, popularly known as Chef Smith, for setting a new record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
At a press conference held today at the La Palm Beach Hotel, Chef Smith announced his accomplishment. His marathon cooking session began on February 1, 2024, and continued uninterrupted for 820 hours, concluding on March 6, 2024, even though his initial goal was 1,200 hours.
The record certificate, as reported by Myjoyonline.com, states: “The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 802 hours 25 minutes and was achieved by Ebenezer Smith (Ghanaian) in Spintex, Accra, Ghana. From 1 February to 6 March, 2024.”
Speaking at the news conference, Chef Smith expressed his gratitude and pride: “I am deeply humbled and honored to announce that I am now the new world record holder for the cook-a-thon.”
Chef Smith’s attempt came in the wake of a failed effort by another Ghanaian chef, Failatu. Despite facing limited support compared to previous record attempts, those who followed Chef Smith believed in his potential for success. His perseverance and dedication ultimately led to this extraordinary achievement.
