A town in Northern Ireland has reportedly erected a bonfire pyre standing over 205 feet tall, potentially surpassing the current Guinness World Record.
The Craigyhill Bonfire Committee in Larne disclosed that the height of the bonfire pyre was officially measured at 205 feet, 6 inches by land survey firm LSS, and slightly less, at 205 feet and .269 inches, by Clifford and Gregg, another survey firm. Both measurements exceed the previous record set by a 198-foot, 11-inch bonfire in Austria in 2019.
Pending official verification by Guinness World Records, the committee has submitted the measurement data for consideration.
The monumental bonfire pyre gained international attention earlier in the week when Stephen Maginnis executed a base jump from its summit, marking what was hailed as the world’s first such feat from a bonfire pyre.
The bonfire, along with several others across the region, is set to be lit on Thursday night as part of the Eleventh Night celebrations. This tradition precedes the Glorious Twelfth, commemorating the victory of Protestants over Catholics at the 1690 Battle of the Boyne in Ireland.
