In an impressive display of endurance and determination, Eamonn Keaveney of Ireland has secured his second Guinness World Records title by riding his unicycle the entire length of Ireland—a staggering 308 miles—in just 5 days, 5 hours, and 23 minutes.
Keaveney, speaking to Guinness World Records, described the challenge of setting the record for the fastest crossing of Ireland by unicycle as both daunting and ridiculous, a perfect mix that compelled him to attempt it. Despite having no prior experience with unicycles before training for this endeavor, Keaveney embarked on the journey with the same spirit that earned him the record for the world’s longest barefoot journey in 2016, followed by climbing 10 mountains barefoot in 10 days.
Reflecting on the grueling attempt, Keaveney revealed he spent approximately 12 hours each day on his unicycle. “It was sometimes challenging toward the end of the day to muster the strength to mount the unicycle for those final miles,” he admitted.
The journey wasn’t without its physical tolls, as Keaveney suffered from a swollen ankle towards the end, describing each pedal rotation as “torture.” “As long as you are moving, you are pedaling. Hence my ankle swelling up from overuse,” he explained.
Keaveney’s accomplishment not only adds another accolade to his list of impressive feats but also stands as a testament to his unwavering determination and resilience in the face of extreme challenges.
This record-breaking achievement highlights Keaveney’s exceptional endurance and underscores his willingness to push boundaries in pursuit of extraordinary goals.
