WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University has secured the top position among U.S. public universities and ranks as the ninth most recognized university globally in the 2024-25 Global University Visibility (GUV) rankings, as announced on Tuesday, July 16.
Conducted by American Caldwell, a Washington, D.C.-based firm, the GUV rankings place Purdue ahead of prestigious institutions such as the University of Michigan, the University of California, Berkeley, Yale University, and the University of Toronto. Purdue also claims the second spot among public universities worldwide, just behind Brazil’s Universidade de São Paulo, and leads as the highest-ranked university within the Big Ten conference. Notably, Purdue outpaces every other Indiana-based university by a significant margin.
President Mung Chiang expressed pride in Purdue’s achievement, stating, “This tremendous standing once again underscores Purdue’s sterling reputation worldwide. No matter their area of expertise, people at Purdue are persistently pursuing solutions to the most pressing challenges, impacting lives and enhancing our society. This recognition is really about those Boilermakers, as our marketing and communications team is merely amplifying their tireless efforts in making Purdue the most consequential public university by sharing those stories with audiences everywhere.”
The GUV ranking evaluates a university’s global visibility through six key indicators, including the frequency and quality of news mentions, online presence, social media engagement, public interest, web citations, and website traffic. Purdue excelled in these metrics, notably drawing nearly 16 million visits to its recently enhanced Purdue.edu, ranking seventh globally for university website visitors.
In bolstering its global presence, Purdue has forged impactful partnerships internationally, including a recent $4 billion investment by SK hynix Inc. to establish an advanced packaging and R&D facility for AI products at the Purdue Research Park. These collaborations extend across Japan, France, India, Korea, Belgium, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Greece, and England, reinforcing Purdue’s commitment to global initiatives in industry and education.
Purdue’s recognition in the GUV rankings adds to its accolades in visibility, innovation, and academic excellence over the past year, including rankings in the QS World University Rankings, U.S. News & World Report, and Times Higher Education.
With its leadership in innovation and commitment to academic excellence, Purdue University continues to set benchmarks in global higher education and research.
