London, July 26, 2024 (AP) – The Ambani-Merchant wedding, dubbed the world’s most expensive celebration at an estimated $600 million, is set to continue its opulent festivities in the UK, drawing in a star-studded guest list including Prince Harry and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Following a grand culmination in Mumbai, where luminaries from Kim Kardashian to Tony Blair gathered for three days of lavish ceremonies, attention now shifts to the UK for an extended two-month celebration.
Reports indicate that some notable figures from the Mumbai event, like Boris and Carrie Johnson, may make a reappearance in the UK, alongside rumors of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle joining the festivities.
Controversy has accompanied the event, however, as approximately 850 members of a Grade II listed golf club were reportedly cautioned to avoid the area due to the Ambani family’s extensive hotel booking for renovations, allegedly breaching local council guidelines.
Tensions have escalated over whether the family’s use of the property complies with its leasehold terms, which stipulate commercial rather than private usage.
Despite these issues, the UK leg of the celebrations is expected to spare no expense, although it is unlikely to surpass the extravagance of the Mumbai ceremonies.
Anant Ambani, son of India’s wealthiest man Mukesh Ambani, and Radhika Merchant, heiress to a pharmaceutical dynasty, have spared no expense in their wedding festivities. From a star-studded pre-wedding party with performances by Rihanna to a European cruise featuring entertainers like the Backstreet Boys and Katy Perry, the celebrations have been nothing short of spectacular.
The weekend’s main events included a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony followed by a ‘Shubh Ashirwad’ and a grand reception, attended by global elites ranging from tech magnates like Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates to entertainment icons such as Justin Bieber.
The Ambanis reportedly chartered over 100 private jets and booked out every luxury hotel in the vicinity to accommodate their international guests, underscoring the scale of their celebrations.
