Sumit Singh, hailing from Rourkela in Odisha, has brought immense pride to India by achieving a remarkable feat, setting a Guinness World Record for continuously running on a treadmill for an astounding 12 hours.
According to the official Guinness World Records website, Sumit covered an impressive distance of 68.04 kilometers during this extraordinary accomplishment.
His record-breaking endeavor unfolded on March 12, 2024, spanning from 8:15 am to 8:20 pm at the Basant Pathagar premises.
“The greatest distance run on a manual treadmill in 12 hours (male) is 68.04 km (42.27 mi) and was achieved by Sumit Kumar Singh (India) in Rourkela, Odisha, India, on March 12, 2024,” states the certificate.

Furthermore, the website underscores that Sumit undertook this record-breaking challenge to raise awareness for mental health and advocate for the benefits of an active lifestyle. “I am delighted after creating a Guinness World Record. My main objective is to make people beyond the age of 30 aware of fitness and mental health issues. People in this age group always struggle to maintain a healthy lifestyle. My aim is also to represent India in the 24-hour world championship,” he conveyed to Times of India.
Prior to this feat, as per reports, Sumit had already demonstrated his incredible endurance by completing 12-hour and 24-hour runs on the track, covering distances of 102 kilometers and 161 kilometers, respectively.
However, Sumit’s accolades do not end there. Last year, he established another record by completing the most marathons within a month. Between April 25 and May 24, Sumit finished an impressive 33 marathons. His extraordinary achievement earned him recognition from The International Book of Records as the world record holder for completing the most full marathons in a single month.
Reportedly, Sumit has also qualified to represent India in South Africa for the COMRADES race, where he aims to run for 86 kilometers within 12 hours. The race is scheduled for June this year.
