In a world where longevity often captivates people’s imaginations, a remarkable feline is now vying for a place in the Guinness World Records. Leslie Greenhoff, a 69-year-old resident, claims that his cat, Milly, is the oldest living cat at 29 years old, surpassing the current record holder.
Milly, born in 1995, was originally adopted by Paula Greenhoff, Leslie’s late wife. Paula adopted Milly when the cat was just three months old. Leslie and Paula met through a dating website on October 10, 2012, and sadly, Paula passed away from COVID-19 in April 2020.
As reported by the Daily Star, the news of Milly’s potential record has sparked curiosity about the secret to her longevity. Interestingly, Leslie revealed that Milly has never visited a veterinarian. Instead, her diet consists of chicken and Purina cat food. Despite her advanced age, Milly remains relatively healthy, although she has slowed down and is partially deaf.
“She can still jump up on the sides, but she’s a little slower these days,” Leslie said. “It’s just us two, and she isn’t bothered by any other cats, so I think it’s helped her live a long and peaceful life. She’s never gone to the vet since I’ve owned her or had any real health issues. She’s a little deaf now and loves to sleep on my bed.” He added that Milly enjoys lying on the couch and receiving plenty of treats.
Leslie is now in the process of contacting Guinness World Records to officially recognize Milly. Currently, the title of the world’s oldest cat is held by Flossie, who is 28 years old and was born on December 29, 1995.
Leslie hopes to honor his late wife’s memory by securing this recognition for Milly. “She loved Milly, and everyone should know what a remarkable cat she is,” Leslie expressed.
As Leslie and Milly await confirmation from Guinness World Records, their story continues to inspire and captivate those who learn about the extraordinary bond between a man and his aging, yet vibrant, feline companion.
