New Delhi, India, June 6 (ANI): Deakin University has achieved a significant milestone by climbing 36 places to secure a position in the world’s top 200 universities, as per the latest QS World University Rankings released today. With an overall rank of 197, Deakin’s performance underscores its status in the top 1 percent of global universities. Notably, it is also the first international university to establish a teaching campus in India, known as the Deakin University GIFT Campus. This initiative extends its longstanding engagement with India over three decades, aiming to provide world-class education and skills development in emerging areas to support India’s transition into a digital knowledge economy.
The prestigious QS World University Rankings evaluate institutions based on five key indicators: Research and Discovery, Employability and Outcomes, Learning Experience, Global Engagement, and Sustainability.
Deakin’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Iain Martin, attributed this significant achievement to the dedication and hard work of the university community. He emphasized Deakin’s commitment to fostering innovation, creativity, and excellence while upholding principles of inclusion and educational accessibility.
“As we approach our 50th anniversary later this year, Deakin’s deep-rooted connection to the community has been pivotal in our success,” Professor Martin remarked. “Our collaborative partnerships enhance the educational experience, drive innovative research, and have a positive impact globally.”
The university’s recent rankings also reflect its focus on environmental stewardship and social responsibility. Deakin’s substantial progress in the sustainability category, climbing 217 positions to rank 66th globally and 13th nationally, underscores its environmental impact, an area of high importance for students according to QS.
Additionally, Deakin excelled in International Faculty (135th globally) and Citations per Faculty (140th globally), as per QS data.
Ravneet Pawha, Vice President (Global Alliances) and CEO (South Asia) at Deakin University, expressed delight at the announcement, attributing it to the dedication, innovation, and excellence of the university community. She emphasized Deakin’s commitment to providing world-class education, pioneering research, and impactful industry collaborations.

In recent years, Deakin has achieved several milestones, including establishing an international branch campus in India, securing approval for a campus in Indonesia, and being recognized as a Trailblazer University for its contributions to recycling and clean energy initiatives.
Deakin University, established in 1974, is renowned for its excellence in teaching, research, and industry partnerships. Its operations in South Asia commenced in 1994, reflecting its early commitment to engaging with the region’s government, industry, and academia to promote education and research collaborations.
