Martha Sheehan, a 10-year-old radio enthusiast from the UK, has made broadcasting history by becoming the youngest person to manage a radio station.
At just 10 years and 262 days old, Martha’s passion for radio sets her apart from her peers. She exudes confidence and talent beyond her years, demonstrating a natural flair for radio management.
On April 11, Martha collaborated with the British radio station Fun Kids to create a unique Space Station. Fun Kids, known for its innovative programming, supported Martha in her endeavor to launch her own radio station.
The launch event, held on June 9 at the National Space Centre in Leicester, UK, was a culmination of Martha’s dedication and creativity. Surrounded by fellow enthusiasts, Martha took charge of the on-air output, overseeing every aspect of the space-themed station, from the playlist to the station’s creative concept.
Prior to the launch, Martha demonstrated her professionalism by leading creative sessions for the Space Station, actively engaging with the adult team members. Her responsibilities included planning features, producing jingles, and curating music playlists, all while maintaining a clear vision for her station.
Throughout the journey, Martha’s enthusiasm and dedication shone brightly. From creative meetings at the Fun Kids headquarters in London to selecting tracks and overseeing every creative step, Martha proved herself to be a capable and inspiring leader.
At the launch event, Martha’s milestone was officially recognized by Guinness World Records adjudicator David Wilson, who presented her with a well-deserved certificate.
In addition to Martha’s achievement, the event featured a special record attempt for the attendees—a competition to create three origami rockets in the fastest time. After a thrilling battle, Bethany Mulford emerged as the victor, showcasing impressive folding skills and setting a new record of 27.88 seconds.
David Wilson praised Bethany’s performance, highlighting her adherence to guidelines and rapid origami folding. The event was a testament to the creativity and talent of young individuals like Martha and Bethany, who continue to inspire others with their achievements.
